One of my favorite self-care tools that I use in my life is the act of performing a ritual every morning. My ritual is of my own creation, and really only has meaning for me. The purpose of my ritual is to get my thoughts into a positive state and start my day from a relaxed and happy place.
Wikipedia defines a ritual as “a sequence of activities involving gestures, words, and objects, performed in a sequestered place, and performed according to set sequence”.
I like to think of a ritual as being a little ceremony that helps to still the mind and focus attention to the purpose of the ritual. It’s the opportunity to demonstrate a bit of reverence for being in the moment. It’s a chance to start my day in the spirit of thankfulness. It’s a chance to reflect on the realization that all I have right now is a gift and a miracle in itself.
There are no rules about what your own, personal ritual should look like or include. Only you can decide what has meaning to you.
